Instrument Fund and Instrument Donation
Have you noticed that every instrument has its own style and character? Just like the humans that play them!
A musical instrument has the potential to become a lifelong companion. To ensure this lifelong connection, every child should have the opportunity to choose the instrument that "speaks" to them. And whilst advancing technology has found a way to mass produce some instruments (thus bringing down purchase costs and making them more accessible), some remain stubbornly and beautifully impossible to create on a factory production line, making them and some of the other large instruments in the orchestra simply more costly to acquire and this has an immediate and negative effect on how many youngsters have the chance to take up these not-mass-produced instruments.
Youth Music Wessex has a vision to build collections of these cost-prohibitive instruments, so as to be able to loan them out. We would like to make the learning of a particular instrument that has ignited a youngster's musical curiosity, possible for everyone. If we can make this vision a reality, we'll be able to match "characters" with "characters", repopulate those instrumental species that are becoming "endangered" and maximise the opportunities that a lifelong love of music and instrumental playing can bring.
We are currently seeking donations to our instrument fund, so as to enable us to start purchasing some more specific instruments (such as oboes, French horns, bassoons etc.) to loan to young musicians who otherwise may not have the opportunity to take up such instruments. If you'd like to play your part and make donation to the fund, please contact the YMWes Director here.
The Great Wessex Instrument Rescue!
How many instruments must there be lying unused in a cupboard or loft space? If you have a previously much used and loved instrument, that is no longer being played, and you'd like to see it back in use, why not donate it to Youth Music Wessex and let us bring it back to life and loan out to youngsters in need of a little instrumental support. We will happily accept all and any ensemble instruments, on a donation or semi or permanent loan basis. They will be well looked after and you can rest assured that they will enable more youngsters (many of whom otherwise may never have had the opportunity to have use of an instrument), to be bitten by the music bug, and like generations of Wessex musicians before them, go on to learn new skills and make memories and friends for life. "Thank you"... ..to our supporters who have reached out to Youth Music Wessex and donated instruments. In turn, they enable us now to reach out to even more youngsters and bring music into their lives - thank you so much to:
