Wessex Junior and Senior Wind Bands

Wessex Junior Wind Band (WJWB) - Saturdays - 9.30am - 10.30am
Playing level: Grades 1-4* - no audition requirement
The WJWB caters for our newest wind, brass and percussion players; giving them an all-round introduction to the wind band world. The repertoire is carefully chosen to suit the introductory level, challenging just enough to ensure progress.
The hour-long rehearsal enables these new young musicians to begin to build stamina and improve concentration and offers insights into rhythm work, breath control and listening skills as well.
But most importantly, it offers youngsters from all over the area the opportunity to try out their new instrumental skills alongside others who are also starting out on their music-making journey, so making new friends becomes a happy extra!

Wessex Youth Wind Band (WYWB) - Saturdays - 10.45am - 12.15pm
Playing level: Grades 5-7+* - no audition requirement
This more advanced ensemble welcomes intermediate level wind, brass and percussionists from all over the Wessex area.
The 90 minute rehearsals enable a more in depth look at repertoire, and technical aspects of wind, brass and percussion playing, tackling a wide variety of music from traditional wind band repertoire, film and show scores and some classical pieces too.
The WYWB is also the pathway to participation in the Wessex Young Apprentice Orchestra - an intermediate symphony orchestra, running on a project to project basis, offering an introduction to full orchestral performance.
* Graded exams need not have been taken - the grade level simply allows us to select the appropriate ensemble for each player
